FAI Youthcert Course
Last weekend the FAI concluded the formal part of the first youthcert coaching course to be held in Gainstown. The course is part of the integrated coaching development programme developed by the FAI in recent years and is taken by coaches who have previously successfully completed the Kickstart 1 and 2 courses. Holders of this certificate are fully qualified to coach players up to youth level. The course involved two full weekends under intensive instruction in Gainstown and will conclude with an assessment of each participant in six weeks time. The course was delivered by Noel O'Reilly, formerly assistant to Brian Kerr while underage Irish manager, assisted by Paurioc Nicholson, FAI Regional Development Officer. Twenty eight participants successfully completed the course, including four coaches from Mullingar Athletic, ie Michael Daly, Donal O'Keefe, Dominic McLaughlin and Richie Fagan.
Schoolboys Referees Course - Next Saturday 13 January 2007
This course will be held in Gainstown on Saturday 13 January, commencing at 2pm. The course will only take approx three hours for associate level and will qualify participants to referee schoolboys and schoolgirls football. Participants will initially undertake refereeing at small sided game (ie 7 or 9 a-side) with progression to full eleven-a-side schoolboys and schoolgirls. With 20 underage clubs fielding each weekend it is essential that there is a sufficient supply of referees available to officiate at matches in Gainstown. Without referees there can be no football for these young players. To that end the Club is seeking names of persons, male or female, who would be interested in schoolboy refereeing.
Please contact Aidan Farrell at 044 9372944 as soon as possible if you are interested in participating.
Parents are advised that the Saturday Morning Underage Coaching (for Under 6's to Under 9's) resumes on Saturday, 13 January
